What do the numbers in a fertilizer formula stand for?

The formula for Fertilome for All Seasons II Lawn Food Plus Crabgrass and Weed Preventer has a formula of 16-0-8. These numbers stand for three important nutrients required for healthy plant growth – nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

The number 16 means there is 16% nitrogen in the bag of fertilizer. Nitrogen helps plants produce chlorophyll, speeding growth and giving your lawn a dark green color.

The second number in the formula stands for the percentage of phosphorus in the product. Phosphorus aids in root development and increases the amount and size of blooms on a plant. Phosphorus is important when seeding a new lawn or planting a new tree to give it a healthy start.

The last number shows that All Seasons II has 8% Potassium. Potassium serves many functions in healthy plant growth. It guards against disease, protects the plant during a drought, help a plant to tolerate cold, improves root development, and aids the process of photosynthesis.

Besides these three key ingredients, there are other nutrients and filler products in the fertilizer mixture. The fillers help you easily apply the fertilizer over a large area.

FERTILOME BLOOMING AND ROOTING SOLUBLE PLANT FOOD

A plant food that produces beautiful blooms now!

The formula for Blooming and Rooting Soluble Plant Food is 9-58-8. This plant food is 58% phosphorus with enough nitrogen and potassium to stimulate healthy plant growth.

Because this plant food is high in phosphorus, it strengthens roots, produces lovelier blooms, and aids fruit development. This product was designed especially for tomatoes, roses, orchids, pansies, and other blooming and fruit-bearing plants.

This plant food can be applied several ways.

Container plants. Put 1 teaspoon in a gallon of water. Soak the soil in the flower pot until the water drips out the drainage holes. Use this solution each time you water until you have a healthy, blooming plant. For maintaining a healthy plant after that, you can use ½ teaspoon in a gallon of water.

Foliage feeding for outdoor plants. Mix 1 tablespoon of plant food in a gallon of water. Use a watering can and thoroughly wet the leaves with the solution.

Foliage feeding for container plants. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of plant food in a quart of water for foliar feeding of plants in flower pots. Wet the leaves well.

With foliage feeding, the leaves take in the solution immediately. This gives the plant nutrients quickly, providing fast results if a plant has stopped blooming or if the leaf color is fading.

Outdoor plants. For outdoor plants in your garden and flower beds, mix 2 tablespoons of plant food in a gallon of water. Apply 1 quart per one square foot of soil. For best results, this solution can be applied every 7 to 14 days during the growing season.

Rooting solution. Dilute a teaspoon of the Blooming and Rooting mix in a gallon of water. Right after planting, saturate the root area of the plant. If you are planting a large plant in a one-gallon container or bigger, slowly pour the plant food mixture into the hole as you add the soil around the plant roots.
